RECOGNIZED LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT EXPERTISE
After many years practicing employment law, managing litigation, and overseeing global compliance programs, including at publicly traded organizations and multinational corporations, Megan has considerable experience advising, defending, and pursuing employment claims. During her career as an in-house lawyer, Megan routinely dealt with executive compensation disputes, wage and hour issues, discrimination claims, harassment allegations, and ethics issues – both domestically and globally.
Megan has 15 years of litigation experience, including representing small and large businesses and individuals before administrative agencies, in court, and during alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Megan has successfully defended class actions both as in-house counsel and outside counsel in Texas, California, New York, Illinois, and Florida, including wage and hour and Fair Credit Reporting Act claims.
With this experience, Megan brings unique qualifications and a well-rounded perspective to clients – resulting in practical advice and creative solutions that align to client strategy. Megan combines legal knowledge and business acumen to deliver pragmatic, smart, and realistic guidance on everyday challenges in the workplace.
Megan is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators and has extensive experience conducting internal investigations. These matters are often highly sensitive, potentially involve key executives, and effectively executing them is critical to satisfy governance requirements and ensure future defensibility for the client.
Megan has held several executive-level positions in legal and compliance at companies, which included overseeing all labor and employment matters, managing bet-the-company litigation, and managing global compliance programs at publicly traded companies, such as Sabre GLBL, Inc., Travelocity.com LP, and RealPage, Inc., a Dallas-based software-as-a-service company. · Before going in-house, Ms. Smale practiced law at Hunton and Williams, LLP, now known as Hunton Andrews Kurth, LLP and Rogge Dunn Group, LLP.
AREAS OF EXPERIENCE
Ms. Smale represents a variety of clients in employment law, litigation, and workplace investigations in response to employee complaints of unlawful conduct such as harassment, discrimination, retaliation, non-compliance with company codes of conduct·, ethics, or other serious policy violations.
